Little Girl

This amp is an experiment to see how small a box I could squeeze a fully functioning guitar amplifier into. The answer to that greatly depends on construction techniques, and this amp is also my first attempt at point to point construction.

I'll likely redo the amp with terminal strips to tie things down a bit. I'm not entirely thrilled with the concept of high voltage lines held in place by the rigidity of the component leads.

The amp really couldn't be simpler: an input jack, two gain stages, fixed voltage divider (to avoid reaming the living daylights out of the 6BQ5), and a 6BQ5.

Even though the pictures you see of the faceplate are real pretty, I'm probably going to make the sole control on the amp the power switch. (Labeled "Volume", of course.) I did this as an experiment while debugging my first amp, the Fat Lady, and found I really liked what it did to my playing. It forced me to use the volume knob at the guitar more than I already do, and in a matter of hours I got quite attached to the idea. I also like the softness of the clean sound when rolled down at the guitar. I guess you could call it the "Soul" control.

I'm still searching for a speaker for this thing - an 8" speaker will dwarf my efforts at miniaturization. I'm hoping to luck out on a 6x9 that rolls off at guitar friendly frequencies.
